Witnessing…witnessing…witnessing!
To become a living witness of our faith is the most effective way of
evangelization. This underlying presumption should be valued by all human
beings especially those who aspire to embrace the life of service for the
Church. However, become an authentic witness the mastery of the self is very
much essential. In becoming an ambassador of God’s kingdom, it is important to
know the very own self – the strengths and flaws, because this will become the
asset toward an effective apostolate. Knowing oneself is indeed the starting
point of witnessing and evangelization and the great foundation in confronting
the challenges and adversities in the ministry.

My
life and its very meaning, the values that I have to live, and the decisions
that I have to make, depend solely on how I understand myself. Indeed,
according to Michael D. Moga, “The self
is “discovered” when we actively create ourselves, finding the unique paths
that our lives were meant to take and directing our efforts along those paths.”[2]
With this, I may become man grounded on my own self and this will lead me
to be a man oriented towards others. Being grounded within simply means being who
I am and what I am. Moreover, the only way to become a man grounded within
is to embrace my own glory and downfall. I don’t have to be scared about my
flaws because in the first place God knows them even before he called me.
As a seminarian aspiring to
become the ambassador of Christ’s love, I have to configure my whole self to
God because it is then that I may become grounded in myself. I have to break
myself and share it to others as Jesus broke his life for me. I may falter in
my ministry, but the love of God will always lead me to go back to myself where
I can find him. I have to make sure that my identity must be rooted and
grounded in Christ for when my identity is fully grounded on a proper
foundation; it is then that my mission is fully understood.

ReplyDeletethank you grace and more power...
DeleteThe good thing about this article is that it points out the basic and fundamental requirement of those who are aspiring to become a priest: Self-knowledge (that is becoming aware of who we are for better or for worse) and at the same time self-identity (striving to become someone who we wants to become - in this case to be like Christ). May this academic exercise bears fruit and will truly bring the reader to accept who he really is but also to strive who he wants to become. Padayon Igsuon! :)
ReplyDeleteknowing oneself is terribly important in considering the call to embrace the life of service. we have to be grounded within so that we become others oriented. we have to accept our own glory and fall, our strength and flaws because in the first place God knows them even from the start. moreover in the book of the prophet Jeremiah chapters 3:15 and 23:4, God tells us about a true shepherd of soul..and so, let us not be afraid to know ourself to name our weaknesses and flaws because as what pope francis says "God loves us therefore let us not be afraid to love ourselves".
ReplyDeletesalamat fr. alner..
Discovering oneself will always be discovering God. It starts and ends with Him. And every man must master that self discovery, not only for those who follow the sacred vocation, that we may know His will for us and strive to fulfill it.
ReplyDeleteSan Darwin, iampo mo kami.

ReplyDeleteResponding God's call is the most rewarding achievement in our lives. we may have different vocations but we have only one goal. To bring God's people closer to him. we can consider ourselves as leader s for it is we who manage everything regarding ourselves. Now the challenge here is that when we shepherd people let's make all things clear. Self-awareness must be secured because it is by then that by leading we tend to give the totality of ourselves. This implies that selflessness will be observed, be ready to be broken, shared and do sacrifices for the glory of our goal. we shouldn't be afraid to follow Christ, let's just surrender to Him our entirety and everything will fall into its right places.
ReplyDeleteChallenge: Let's all stand up and be firm with our faith.
to you brother dear Darwin, continue being the total experience of Christ to our fellowmen.
thank you ray... more power... God bless.
ReplyDeletewitnessing.... immersion to the real life of the people is sometimes associated as mission... but, to have clear grasp of what is mission,, we need to look for its foundation... that is coming from the Holy Trinity..
ReplyDelete..... you're right dar.... that our life is a living witnesses in evangelization. In addition, the way we immerse,. our motivation,... must be examine also.. Thats why we need to be aware where this commitment coming from.. God bless you dar..
ReplyDeletethank you bro junrey... indeed being missionaries is somehow like soldiers send in the battle field. being soldiers of God we have to be equipped for us to win the battle. therefore being grounded within is the best armor in doing pastoral ministry...the challenge now is that does God resides within us or not?... because at the end of the day our endeavor in knowing our self become useless if we do not anchor our life to God...
ReplyDeletethank yu bro junrey... God bless...
many are called but few are chosen .... stay good and be a blessing to everyone :)
ReplyDeleteenjoy ur stay diha sa seminary...
thank you very much... may the good Lord bless you and yur family... amping ug ampo....
ReplyDeleteTo be Witness is not easy, it takes a lot of courage. To stand to what you believe, to what you have seen... you have to testify it to everyone. Darwin, be a witness to what you believe! thanks for inspiring us through this blog...
ReplyDeleteCommendable Work from a Friend of Mine and a Seminarian that also served as our second brother which in one way or another helped our parish to produce altar servers disregarding the modernization of different aspects that would hinder youth to be closer to God.
ReplyDeleteMay God Bless Us Always

ReplyDeleteI have thoroughly read your articles as well as your comments Dar. It is good to see that you are listening to others and fairly contemplating more than one viewpoint while holding your own stance on your article. " To become a living witness of our faith is truly the most effective way of evangelizing people. Thus, we must configure ourselves to God in order to have a proper and strong foundation, for it is only through Him and in Him that we will always be able to find our ways no matter what. Through Him It is only then that we will fully understood and fulfilled our mission because we no longer bring ourselves alone but also Him " the way, the truth, and the life". You are also right with your statement that " you may falter in the priestly ministry but God's love will always lead you back to find yourself where you can see Him for He finds you. Always remember that real service is when you are caught up beyond yourself doing something for an ultimate value. Good luck and God bless you manghud :)
ReplyDeletethank you kuya for reading my article and for your thoughtful comments.. indeed in doing ministry we should not forget our mission - to help people in their meeting with God. by knowing our self we will be able to know our charism. in that way we may not become hindrances in their fusion...
DeleteWitnessing is Living. And the Church is the Living Witness of God’s saving love. As members of the Church, especially for us who aspire to become servant of God, we are also called for it – to witness and to live our faith.
ReplyDeleteThis article is somehow answers the question, “how to become a living witness”.
Dar, I am indeed confident that your reflections inspired me to become more sincere and to live truly the challenges of our vocation amidst the struggle especially in knowing myself. It is then I realize that even in my weaknesses, I still experience the gift of vocation and the inner joy to live this kind of life.
As Optatam Totius no. 4 points out, “candidate for priesthood should be oriented to the formation of true shepherds of souls after the model of our Lord Jesus Christ, teacher, priest and shepherd.” It is indeed a challenge for us to live the call of the Church to become “Shepherd of Soul” as “alter Christus”.
Tanx dar!!!!One Faith…One Goal…One Journey…for evangelization, for the Church, and for the Greater Glory of God!
Kep’n’touch n prayer!!!!
thank you kuya johny for reading my article...indeed, by knowing our self and be grounded on it is the basic criterion in doing ministry. we only become Christ the good shepherd if we know and accept our selves. in doing so we will be able to configure our heart and mind to the mind and heart of the Good Shepherd...
Deletethank you very much for yur thoughtful comments... God bless you... let us together bring Christ in today’ s world..let us prayer for each other because we have one faith, one goal, one journey...
nice one!
ReplyDeletevery inspiring and substantial!
